I literally thought that this was the answer to my prayers as right side of the brain has been a staple of personal behavior my entire life.  I had heard about the class from a postage stamp size advertisement at “Plante Kids”.  The woman said it was for persons reentering the work force or the self-employed.  I believed that I could do this from her description and so without one single class on computer literacy under my belt I dove into the world wide web, armed with a lifetime of accomplishments, demands and daydreams.

I live in a very remote and inaccessible location without internet and I hadn’t ventured much on the web as it did not fit into my childrearing, studio building, shepherding, snow shoveling, off the grid lifestyle to say the least.

Be that what it may I knew I was going to internt 101 and I was going to have a lot to learn.

What Phyllis Erck has introduced me too has been a crash course in media literacy, sprinkled with humourous insights into the makings of personal website, a large collection of workable free themes in which to present my accomplishments, display images of my work and print the story I want to tell and an arsenal of templates that meet my needs so I can navigate this electric universe of information with my little bit of my story.

Phyllis met my demands with considerate enthusiasm even in the face of my harshest critic, me, as I had so far to go.  I have worked very hard over the last six weeks of class and have had to gain a lot of patience for this new form of communication.  But, now I have a website on the internet under my name with my content.  I have a lot more work to do on my space.  But, as I am an artist by trade and a farmer by nature, a web presence is crucial for viewing my artwork and our studio/farm, natural cemetary sanctuary.

Thank you so much for providing a space for this much needed highly informative and refreshingly inclusive class.  It proves that you don’t have to have a degree in computer science to succeed but if they happen to be in your class it can help, and for Phyllis Erck who has taken on the job of teaching art-farmers, musicians, writers and others to fish with humor and patience.
